Argentine tenor Darío Schmunck was born in Buenos Aires and has sung in international theaters throughout the world including the Royal Opera, Covent Garden, Teatro Alla Scala, Milan, Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, Frankfurt Opera, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Teatro Real Madrid , Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, Teatro La Fenice, Venice, Teatro San Carlo, Naples ,Teatro dell’Opera di Roma ,among many others.
During the last seasons ,he perfomed Otello (Jago) by Rossini at Theatre de la Monnaie Maria Stuarda opposite Mariella Devia at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, La Straniera opposite Edita Gruberova and under the baton of Fabio Luisi , Jason in Medea in Belgium , Los diamantes de la Corona at Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, Lucia opposite Edita Gruberova in Budapest,La Straniera opposite Edita Gruberova at Theater an der Wien in Vienna,Werther in Buenos Aires,Faust in Budapest , Armida directed by Alberto Zedda in Gent, Rosmonda d’Inghilerra di Donizetti in Bergamo- Donizetti Festival and Armida in Montpellier – La Favorite in Las Palmas (Spain), Rosenkavalier and La Traviata at Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.
The core of Dario Schmunck’s repertoire has been and will continue to be the Italian bel-canto roles, which he has sung in some of the best opera houses in the world. The roles with which he has so far been most associated are Leicester Maria Stuarda (Teatro alla Scala,opposite Mariela Devia Teatro la Fenice, Opera di Roma, Opéra National de Lyon, Theatre des Champs Élysées,Verona, Rovigo,), Tebaldo I Capuleti ei Montecchi (Royal Opera House in London opposite Anna Netrebko and Elina Garanca ,at the Deutsche Oper Berlin opposite Elina Garancia. Caterina Cornaro (Radio Vara), and as Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor for Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa.), Edgardo Lucia di Lammermoor (Teatro Colon, Salerno, Valladolid, Budapest opposite Edita Gruberova) Ernesto Don Pasquale (Bologna, Naples and St. Gallen), Nemorino L’Elisir d’Amore (Palma de Mallorca and the Wiener Volksoper and Lord Percy Anna Bolena (Lyon and Paris). Dario Schmunck’s other roles have included the title role in Faust (which he has sung in Bergen Budapest and Lisbon), Alfredo La Traviata (Wiener Staatsoper, Teatro San Carlo, Hamburg, Venice, Zagreb, Rigoletto (Hamburg, Venice, Toulouse, Teatro Verdi di Salerno, Teatro Argentino de la Plata and the five theatres of the Circuito Lombardo),The Italian Tenor Der Rosenkavalier (Bayerische Staatsoper and Oper Frankfurt,Colon –Buenos Aires) and Principe Pio in Vive’s La Generala (the Volksoper and Teatro Verdi in Trieste), as well as Fenton Falstaff, Tamino Die Zauberflöte, Rinuccio Gianni Schicchi which he has sung at the Teatro Colon, and Leopold La Juive in Göteborg.
Dario Schmunck has worked with many of the finest conductors, including Lorin Maazel,Fabio Luisi Stefan Soltesz, Mark Elder, Evelino Pido, Lawrence Foster, Donato Renzetti, Simone Young, Alberto Zedda, Daniel Oren and Paolo Arrivabeni and has recorded Bellini’s La Straniera with David Parry and Opera Rara.
Dario Schmunck’s most recent roles have included Tosca wich he has sung in Japan and Henri- Les Vêpres siciliennes at the Bayerische Staatsoper.
In 2019 sung Rigoletto (Duca) at Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires and Teatro Municipal de Sao Paulo and La Straniera di Bellini (Arturo) at” Maggio Musicale Fiorentino “conducted by Fabio Luisi.
He sang with great success the leading role Fernand by Spontini’s Fernand Cortez at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence.He has been nominated as» the best male singer 2019″ by Opus Klassik for his interpretation of Fernand Cortez in Florence
Darío has recently sung songs by Benjamin Britten and Mozart’s La finta Giardiniera at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly at San Juan Teatro in Argentina.
He will soon sing Nabucco / Ismaele at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.
